CINI Smart City University Challenge 2019

What is it?

The CINI Smart City University Challenge 2019 is the third edition of a University challenge organized by the CINI Smart Cities and Communities Lab in collaboration with the University of Sannio (Benevento). The last phase of the event will take place in Pisa and will be co-located with the I-Cities 2019 conference.
All the universities belonging to the CINI Smart Cities and Communities Lab can participate to the Challenge. Each participant can select up to two local teams for the final competition.

The application domains are:

  • Preservation and fruition of cultural and touristic heritage
  • Smart government and open data
  • Mobility
  • Smart utilities and resource management
  • Urban security
  • Smart City analytics
  • Smart living
  • Environmental sustainability

The Challenge is organized in two phases:

Phase 1

The referents of the participating universities have to preliminary select the domain of interest and to propose project titles or themes. In order to cover the largest number of topics, after the collection of the proposals, the organizers will assign the themes to the participants.
The participants (local teams) can choose to work during the first or the second semester. In both cases, at the end of each semester, the winning local team must send the software documentation to the organizers for participating to the presentation meeting.

Phase 2

The winning teams of the two semesters are invited to participate to the final hackaton that will be held at the I-CiTies conference in September 2019. During the hackaton each team will integrate its system with the ones implemented by the other teams according to an integration scenario provided by the organizers.
The second (final) phase is organized according to this schedule:
Sept. 18th, 14:00 – 18:00: Integration hackaton
Sept. 19th, 9:00 – 13:00: Integration hackaton

Sept. 19th, 15:30 – 16:30: Projects presentation

The evaluations of the two phases will be combined, and the winning teams will be announced and awarded during the I-CiTies conference.
